Quarantine Journal

A few months into quarantine and life has settled into a pattern. Coffee and morning pages on the porch with the pup and the birds. Then a run through the sand dunes, avoiding groups of vacationers and elk herds (both intimidating). Then teaching, Zoom chats, dinner, wine, wash, rinse, repeat.

But, I’m tired a lot. The news, worrying about my family, the hypervigilance necessary for simple outings - some days I feel like crawling under a rock. I always bounce back, but it takes effort.

So, I make little pictures around the house and yard, on the wooded trails nearby, on the foggy beach. I remember that going places isn’t nearly as important as being present where I am. “This is it,” I tell myself. This is my one precious life. I can choose how to meet each day. I watch the light and choose gratitude, again and again.
